This policy explains what personal data ByRole AI (“we”, “us”) collects when you use byroleai.com, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We keep it short because we collect very little.
The short version
- You can read every page without an account and without giving us anything.
- If you join the newsletter, we keep your email address so we can send it. You can leave in one click.
- We do not use advertising or analytics cookies, and we never sell your data.
What we collect
Newsletter sign-ups
When you subscribe we collect your email address, any name you choose to give, the roles you pick, and the date you signed up. We use this only to send the newsletter and to see which roles our readers care about.
Technical data
Like every website, our servers receive your IP address, browser type and the pages you request. Our hosting provider records this in server logs to keep the site secure, block abusive traffic and fix problems. These logs are kept only as long as needed for those purposes.
Emails you send us
If you email us, we keep the message and your address so we can reply.
What we do not collect
There are no reader accounts, comments or payments on this site. We do not run advertising trackers or build profiles of visitors. Our fonts and images are served from our own server, so reading a page does not send your data to font or image services.
Cookies
We do not set analytics or advertising cookies. Our hosting provider may set a strictly necessary cookie when it checks that a visitor is not an automated bot. These cookies are needed to keep the site available and do not track you across other websites. If we ever add analytics, we will update this policy first and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
Affiliate links
Some links to tools are affiliate links, as explained in our affiliate disclosure. We do not pass any of your personal data to the tool makers. When you click through, the site you land on may set its own cookies to record that you came from us, and its own privacy policy applies from that point.
Why we are allowed to use your data
Under UK and EU data protection law (the GDPR), we rely on your consent to send the newsletter, and on our legitimate interests in keeping the site secure and working for the technical data in server logs.
Who we share it with
We use Hostinger to host the site and to run our newsletter list. Hostinger processes data only on our instructions under a data processing agreement, and may store it in data centres outside the UK or EU with appropriate legal safeguards. We do not sell, rent or trade your personal data, and we do not share it for targeted advertising.
How long we keep it
- Newsletter data: until you unsubscribe. We then delete it within 30 days, apart from a record that you opted out so we never email you again by mistake.
- Emails you send us: up to two years after our last conversation.
- Server logs: only as long as needed for security and troubleshooting.
Your rights
You can ask us to show you the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or send it to you in a portable format. You can object to how we use it, and you can withdraw your newsletter consent at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email. If you live in a US state with a privacy law, such as California, you have the right to know what we collect and to ask us to delete it. We do not sell or share personal information as those laws define it.
If you are in the UK and unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk. In the EU, you can contact your local data protection authority. We would appreciate the chance to fix it first, so please get in touch.
Children
ByRole AI is written for working professionals and is not aimed at anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we use your data, we will update this page and the date at the top. If the change is significant, we will also tell newsletter subscribers by email.
